What helps a place work well on ordinary days and keep important services going when something changes? CKP’s Self-Sustainability series explores that question through food, water, energy, health, transport, skills and business.
The series starts in Kurram. We combine the question being discussed in each episode with the evidence behind it, and explain the ideas in everyday language. Local examples need local evidence; a result from another country does not automatically apply here.
Start with these two questions
- What is self-sustainability? Understand why local capability and outside connections belong together. Watch Episode 1.
- What would a stronger Kurram look like? Learn how to follow a whole system, find its weak point and judge whether a proposed asset can become a useful service. Watch Episode 2.
How to use the written companions
Begin with the Urdu summary, follow the headings, and open the source links for the evidence. Examples are labelled when they are hypothetical. Each companion can be read on its own, or alongside the episode.
The questions behind the series
- What is the actual need?
- Where does useful work stop?
- Which local and outside options could help?
- Who would operate and maintain the response?
- What evidence would show that it works?
CKP’s role is public explanation and research. A series example is not a promise to finance a project, a completed district development plan or a guarantee of earnings.
