Chinar Kay Pattay (CKP) is an independent media, education and research platform. We make useful knowledge, research and practical ideas easier to find and understand through podcasts, educational videos, articles and explainers. Our roots are in Parachinar and Kurram, but our outlook reaches across Pakistan and beyond.
Our mission is to make knowledge, research and meaningful conversations accessible, so that people can understand their options and make better decisions for their communities.
Think globally. Design locally.
Our story
CKP began with a simple wish. Growing up in Parachinar, Dilawar Hussain wanted people in Kurram to have the same access to knowledge, technology and opportunities that people have elsewhere, because useful knowledge should not stay only in big cities.
At university he became interested in podcasts and long-form conversations as a way to bring knowledgeable people together. The idea took shape in 2021–2022, and the first episode of the Chinar Kay Pattay podcast was published in October 2023. Since then, CKP has recorded 31 conversations with doctors, teachers, farmers, lawyers, artists, journalists and community workers.
Rooted in a Pakhto-speaking community, CKP mainly speaks in Urdu, so that its conversations can be understood across Pakistan and, through subtitles and translation, beyond it.
The meaning of our name
Chinar Kay Pattay means “leaves of the chinar tree”. The chinar, the oriental plane tree (Platanus orientalis), is closely tied to Parachinar. According to historical accounts, including C. M. Enriquez’s The Pathan Borderland, the town’s name comes from gatherings and jirgas once held under a large chinar tree. The area was earlier known as Tutki (also written Totkai). Accounts differ on some details, and the original tree no longer stands; its remains are reportedly kept at the old Kurram Agency headquarters. Read more about Parachinar’s history.
For our founder, the chinar stood for bringing people, knowledge and experiences together. Each leaf is something shared along the way: a guest, a conversation, a lesson, an idea. Today the chinar represents CKP itself, rooted in Parachinar, with every new contribution adding another leaf.

We are also exploring technology and AI, renewable energy, water, waste and recycling, local industry and more resilient supply. Our current research series, Self-Sustainability for Kurram, looks at how the region can strengthen local skills and systems while staying connected to wider markets. It is not about isolation: every idea is tested for cost, skills, resources and trade-offs before we recommend it.
How we work
- Guests speak from their own experience, and we present their views as theirs.
- When we state facts in our own articles, we cite sources and date anything that can change.
- We correct mistakes openly. If you spot an error, please tell us.
The founder
Dilawar Hussain is the founder and host of Chinar Kay Pattay. He grew up in Parachinar, then moved to Islamabad for further studies, where he graduated in Computer Science from the National University of Modern Languages (NUML).
After working at software houses, he co-founded Gemnine Group of Companies in 2021. The group works mainly in real-estate marketing and, through Gemnine Technologies (Private) Limited, in software. He also founded Social 1 Degree, a digital-services initiative that is still in its early stages.
Through CKP he brings together his interest in technology, education and community development, and his wish to see Kurram grow.
